Woodville Palace Review and Rating
#32 of 136 hotels in Shimla (361 reviews)
Warning, do not stay at this hotel if you value your sanity.

Never in 30 years of traveling in India have I experienced a hotel this bad. Wifi does not exist although promised. Service level is so poor it’s below one star. Their care factor is zero. Twisted my ankle twice in the hole below the carpet in main hall, the building is falling into ruin. Mould growing on our room ceiling. Everything was outdated & delapadated. Walls are paper thin you can hear neighbours entire conversation. Other than our room and reception the entire building was freezing col...

Awesome old world charm
by SayanSen on 19 Jan 2019 (Couple Traveller)
If you are looking to the heritage and the sophistication which Shimla may evoke in your mind, you must consider at least one night here. The environment is straight from the heritage past with every amenity of modern times deftly provided for.

Neglected Heritage

Woodville Palace sounds and looks wonderful. It's key attribute is location, which, though a little out of town, is at the eastern end of Shimla's Mall and a decent 20min walk to the centre. It is also an impressive building, so evocative of the days of the Raj, with the interesting main spaces full of pictures and furniture of the era.
Unfortunately, whoever owns this hotel is depending on past glory and needs to seriously invest in its upkeep.
Our room in the right hand annex was worn and t...

Excellent hotel with local ambiance
by Heafod on 23 Dec 2018 (Couple Traveller)
This is not your standard (dull) international hotel where you could be in any city in the world. This is a local hotel, converted from a maharaja's palace. So it's old, lots of character, some of the floors a bit uneven, and many unique photos adorn the walls.
A 10 minute walk from the main street of Shimla - called The Mall. Just right after a meal in town to get back feeling less full.
Comfortable stay in a royal ambience.

I spent a few days with family at Woodville Palace Hotel in May 2018. Our stay was very comfortable.
Owned and managed by the royal family of Jubbal, the property is impressive and takes you back in time to the era of royalty when Shimla was the summer capital of India. It is tastefully decorated with plenty of portraits and photographs of royal families lining the hallways. Wood has been generously used in the construction and furnishing which gives it a lovely warmth.
For people remember how...
