about yumthang valley

Famous for being a valley which is adorned with wild flowers of numerous colours and varieties, Yumthang Valley is the ultimate destination for all nature-lovers. Located in the North Sikkim district of the state, Yumthang is a green pasture surrounded by the Himalayan Ranges on the sides, with white-cottony clouds shrouded above it.

This beautiful wonder of nature lies at a height of 3564 m and also houses the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, which has about 24 different species of rhododendron. The beauty of the valley is increased by the presence of a tributary of the famous Teesta River, which runs through the heart of the valley. Heavy snowfall makes the area inaccessible during the months of winter. The best time to visit this valley is during spring and summer months.

A visit to Yumthang is best made in May or late April, for the valley comes alive with groves of rhododendrons then.
