Things to Do

Sightseeing

The monuments in Jodhpur are probably the best and the most famous aspect of it. Start your day with the renowned Mehrangarh Fort. It’s a gigantic palace that will take you 2–4 hours to completely explore. In the end, you can check out the souvenir shop and get some cool fridge magnets.

Pro tip: Before exiting, indulge in zip lining here. Be airborne for a few moments and marvel at the entire city from up there!

Then head to Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum. One of the largest private residences in the world, this site is divided into three parts: the palace, the hotel, and the museum. You can enjoy the well-maintained museum and if you have the budget, you can also eat fancy meals at the hotel. And before you start wondering, yes, this is where Priyanka Chopra got married. 😀

Some of the other unmissable sites are Toorji ka Jhalra, Jaswant Thada, Mandore Garden, and Balsamand Lake and Garden.

Shopping

Shopping is a ritual everyone must abide by on every vacation, wouldn’t you agree? 😀 Lucky for you, Jodhpur is a haven for shopaholics. The Ghanta Ghar market is famous for its range of spices, particularly red chilies. Need authentic Rajasthani prints? Head to Nai Sarak to find the best dupattas and bandhej items. If you want to look at decor products and handicrafts, Tripolia Bazaar is a must-visit. Finally, splurge on some colourful juttis at Mochi Bazaar and complement the purchase with jewelry and trinkets.

Get Creative

If you’re a creative person, you can head to Umaid Heritage Art School. Located close to the Ghanta Ghar, it’s a gallery as well as a place of learning. It organizes sessions where one can try one’s hand at traditional art styles of Rajasthan and learn from great experts. If you don’t have time for the lessons, you can still visit the school and look at the beautiful paintings or just have a chat with the people running the place about their work and the city. Fascination is guaranteed!

Watch Sunset and Blue Houses

If you’re visiting Jodhpur in the autumn/winter months, make sure you go for a walk around Mehrangarh Fort and find the sunset point at its ramparts. These blues are sure to shoo away all your woes and blues. 😀

Food Hogging

When in Jodhpur, one must engage with the cravings of one’s taste buds. Street food in the Blue City is varied and beyond amazing. First off, you must try the Makhaniya Lassi at the Shri Mishrilal Hotel. Priced at under INR 100, the lassi is heavenly and heavy at the same time. You can consider this your breakfast with ease.

If you have a sweet tooth, gorge on the Gulab Jamuns at Chaturbhuj. In case you want to dip your toe in something unconventional, you can also try Gulab Jamun Sabzi (yes, you read that right) at Shandar Sweet Home.
