7 International Destinations that are now Open for Vaccinated Indian Travellers

International travel took a major hit during the pandemic with many countries shutting their borders. As the recent Omicron threat finally appears to be dissipating, we can expect a boost in travel in the coming months.

Are you also planning an international trip soon? If yes, then here are some destinations that are now allowing fully-vaccinated Indian travellers. Notably, all these countries have an air-bubble agreement with India.

Switzerland

Indian passengers who are fully-vaccinated with Covishield or Covaxin  are allowed to travel to Switzerland. They are also exempt from quarantine on arrival.

Also, the fully-vaccinated people and those who have recovered from COVID don’t need to present a negative test report to enter the country. 

Singapore

Travel to Singapore from India is allowed via the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) flights. 

As of 21st February 2022, passengers are not required to take a PCR test upon arrival at Changi Airport. 

It has now been replaced by a supervised self-administered Antigen Rapid Test (ART) that must be completed within 24 hours of entry into the country. The Rapid Test can be taken at either a Quick Test Centre or a Combined Test Centre.

Assessed travel history has been reduced from 14 days to 7 days.

Australia

After two years of strict border closure, Australia finally opened up for the vaccinated travellers on 21st February. They must carry a valid vaccination certificate. The approved vaccines include Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V and at least 7 days should have passed since the second dose.

The passengers need to carry a negative RT-PCR report of a test taken within 72 hours of departure. 

Canada 

People travelling to Canada must carry a valid vaccination certificate. The approved vaccines include Pfizer, BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca (including Covishield), Jansen/Johnson & Johnson, Sinopharm and Sinovac. At least 14 days should have passed since the second dose.

All travellers need to carry a negative RT-PCR report of a test taken within 72 hours of arrival.

However, with effect from 28th February, one can also opt from Rapid Antigen Test as a pre-departure test. Travellers will also be subject to random testing at the airport but they won’t have to quarantine until the results are out. 

Qatar 

All international visitors to Qatar must be fully-vaccinated and must carry their valid vaccination certificates. The approved vaccines include Pfizer, BioNTech, Moderna (Spikevax), AstraZeneca (including Covishield), Jansen/Johnson & Johnson. Sputnik V and Covaxin are conditionally approved vaccines. 

Starting from 28th February, passengers will have to submit a negative RT-PCR report of the test taken within 48 hours of arrival. Currently, they need to carry a report no older than 72 hours before their scheduled departure.

As India is one of the countries subject to red health measures in Qatar, the travellers will have to undergo one-day hotel quarantine and also a rapid antigen test.

United Arab Emirates

Indian passengers travelling to the UAE must be vaccinated with any WHO-approved vaccine. 

They must also complete an online pre-registration.  

Passengers need to carry a negative RT-PCR report of a test taken within 48 hours of their scheduled flight. Also, they will be subjected to an on-arrival test at the airport and will have to self-quarantine till the results are declared.

The UAE recently removed pre-departure rapid tests at the airports for travellers from India. 

United States of America

The United States has allowed fully-vaccinated travellers to enter the country. The approved vaccines include Pfizer, BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca (including Covishield), Jansen/Johnson & Johnson, BIPB/Sinopharm, Novavax/Covovax and Sinovac.

Passengers need to carry a negative RT-PCR report not older than 1 day before scheduled departure. This is regardless of citizenship and vaccination status.

They are also advised to take a COVID test within 3-5 days of arrival in the country and self-monitor the symptoms.
