At just half the cost of imported ones, Indian Railways to introduce self-propelled world-class trains.

Good news for the train travellers! The Indian Railways is planning to launch a semi-high speed train set that will be self-propelled with state-of-the-art technology. The Integral Coach Factory (ICF), located in Chennai, is planning to ‘Make in India’, the Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) that can travel at a speed of 160 km/h and will have quicker acceleration as compared to other regular trains. This will save a lot of money and would cost almost half of what it costs in importing.

As per sources, the train sets are currently in the designing phase and once the designs are approved, the manufacturing will start in 2018. For this reason, the Indian Railways have named the project as ‘Train-2018’.
