At first, a boat hotel sounds cool, but......

by mmayovsky on 01 Jan 2017 (Couple Traveller)

When I first booked the Fortuna Boat Hotel I was pretty excited about the idea of staying on a boat in the city. When I arrived at the hotel, it didn’t live up to my expectations. We stayed two nights in a pretty small room with no sound proofing at all. That means you could hear every person walk by the room and people speaking in the room next door. Our heater didn’t seem to be working properly so the next day we asked the front desk for an extra blanket. He said the hotel was full and he didn...

In spite of asking for a room with easy access we were given a tiny cabin of very steep ship's stairs. The information on Internet stated there is a lift but there is no lift and we are both in our late 70s. Otherwise very clean with reasonable cheap breakfast. Bedroom so small we had to climb in from bottom of bed. On arrival off plane very late receptionist could not offer an upgrade to a bigger cabin and when this was offered after the first night it was too late as we only were the...

First time on a botel!

by CameliaCse on 01 Nov 2016 (Business Traveller)

The location of the hotel is great, right ON the Danube, near Margaret Bridge. You can see Margaret Island and the beautiful music and color fountain there from the boat. Is pretty close to tram stations, and the transportation in Budapest is pretty good. Walking distance to the Parliament building and the Lukacs thermal baths (over the bridge). Be careful with the stairs though, they are narrow and abrupt and is a bit hard when you are also carrying luggage. Also the cabins are pretty small, bu...

Basic but clean

by Suzanne Y on 26 Oct 2016 (Family Traveller)

My sister and I stayed at this boat hotel for 4 nights. Very small beds but overall a comfortable stay, housekeeping daily. Breakfast is not the best, eggs and french toast was cold. Very basic food, no croissants or toast available which is usually a regular on buffet breakfasts abroad so was disappointed with this. The Lord Nelson restaurant on board was okay not the best food but okay. Budapest itself is beautiful and would highly recommend anyone to visit

Interesting location with good views of the river and city.

The boat hotel is well placed for tram travel and walking along the danube. There as some lovely views from the boat in the evening. I found the op deck was great relaxing of an evening watching the boats travelling up and down the river.
