Definitely not a 5 star

by KitRaetsen on 17 Oct 2015 (Friends Traveller)

Hotel is interesting and different. None of the staff spoke any English but I don't consider that a problem as sign language works. The big problem is that the rooms are filthy dirty. Had a pair of socks left over from a previous guest next to the bed with a ton of dust on them so the room has not seen a vacuum cleaner in some time. Restaurant was barely adequate. Definitely not a 5 star - maybe a 3.

Distinctly different hotel. World class hospitality.

This was the latter stage of my tour of China in May 2015. I had already visited Beijing and Xian. I didnt know quite what to say when I arrived - certainly I have never stayed in a hotel that felt like a mueum/art gallery (and thats not a bad thing - it is an interesting mix!). The hotel is a little removed from downtown old Lhasa, but no matter, Blue taxis are plentiful, and should not cost more than 20 yuan each way to city centre and back (haggle and you might get a trip for 10 yuan!) Chinese 5 star ;-) … but nice place

by Travellersamanta on 07 Sep 2014 (Couple Traveller)

The hotel is nice, but don't expect super luxury Western standards. In the end, you are in Tibet and some thinks work and some others, don't. It's just this way. The hotel has a big collection of Tibetan artifacts, so it's somehow like a museum. The shocking thing is that you can buy everything!!!!!!! if you like something that is exhibited, you can buy it as a souvenir. Rooms are comfortable, with nice beds. Quite noisy, but not because of the hotel… mainly because of our neighbors (a Chinese t...

5 star hotel ??????

by Marek K on 24 Jul 2014 (Couple Traveller)

The Brahmaputra is advertised as 5 star. Unfortunately, does not meet the conditions that should be a 5 star hotel. The main problems are: the staff do not know the basics of English, dirty rooms not functioning air conditioning, no fridge in the room .... Any attempt to draw attention to these deficiencies crashing on the lack of knowledge of English. I do not recommend - a waste of money.

Initially a "why not" - we kept coming back for the food! And the museum!

Bring a jacket! And time! And an empty stomach! We went there to check out the museum (free and with great exhibits and great pictures from Lhasa's early days), but ended up having lunch there as well. And loved it! Huge selection of Tibetan, Chinese, Indian and Western food. With a bi-lingual menu and pictures and English speaking Nepali staff. Don't be put off if it's empty, the hotel is a bit off, so I guess only hotel guests frequent it. When we were there for lunch, we witnessed the chef ch...
