The cheapest accomodation in Budapest, but quiet nice and good-located.

by Matteusz34 on 23 Aug 2012 (Family Traveller)

When we arrived at the Retro Hotel , we have not known how to enter the hotel because the main door to hotel (properly located in block) was closed and then we have called to hotel staff and the owner has been arrived and he has taken us to flat. While we were walking up the stairs , the neighbours have looked oddly at us , then we found out the the hotel is located in private flat. The flat was devided two rooms + bathroom and kitchen: first(three-bed) and second(one large bed for two people).In...

Terrible little apartment run by a con man.

by RD M on 10 Jul 2012 (Couple Traveller)

When we arrived at the 'hotel', there are no signs anywhere to let you know if you've found the right place, not even around the back of the building, except for on the top of the intercom there was a yellowed scrap of paper with a phone number on it. We pressed the buzzer of the corresponding apartment: no answer. We phoned the number provided and were spun some elaborate story about a previous guest being hospitalised, and the owner of the 'hotel' had to accompany them. We could tell this stor...

No receipts, poor service, but acceptable

by rage707 on 29 Apr 2012

No sign to indicate its existence. Hungary has fences and gates everywhere. Neighbours didn't seem to know it existed. We phone up the international number provided, no answer. Immediate call back informs us someone will let us in in 15 minutes. Asked twice for a receipt, without getting one. Rooms clean; fresh linen provided. Found them on booking.com

great valeu for money

I have stayed at the Retro on many occasions and have always been satisfied. Of course, the satisfaction went along with what I paid. For the price of accommodation and breakfast at the Retro you couldn'g get a croissant at similar centrally located hotels. And the Auchan just accross the road - just perfect. Not too far from the city it provides everything one needs for a short and cheap stay. Will come here again.

Too expensive for the service they provide

by porncake on 26 Aug 2011 (Couple Traveller)

The only reason why we stayed there is the close location to Sziget Festival. The hotel is called Retro and so it is. The old toilets, old showers and a little bit broken water dispensers. Though the room service is really good. It is pretty far from the city center and from the railway station, but the railway (HEV) to Batthyany Ter runs every 7-10 minutes so there is almost no problem to get anywhere you need. There is also a big supermarket near the hotel. If you want to come and visit the ...
