Good News! Railways to recruit 2.31 lakh employees in the coming 2 years

Railways is ready to become the first government department to offer 10% quota for the general category. Piyush Goyal, Indian Railway Minister said, “Railways is going to offer 23k jobs in the next two years. He also said that around 1.31 lakh employees would be hired in the next 6 months and about a lakh more over the next two years.”


Out of 15,06,598 sanctioned employee strength of Railways, 12,23,622 personnel are on roll and the remaining 2,82,976 are vacant posts.

Recruitments will be done in two phases.

1st Phase —

1- First phase recruitment for the hiring of 1,31,328 employees will be initiated between February and March, 2019.


2- Around 19,715, 9,857 and 35,485 vacancies shall be reserved for SC, ST and OBC candidates, respectively.

2nd Phase —

1- Recruitment of approximately 99,000 personnel will be initiated against vacancies arising out of retirements.

2- Approximately 15,000, 7,500, 27,000 and 10,000 posts shall be reserved for SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates.
