Cancelled my booking saying my card is not valid

by SazAlex on 05 Jan 2016 (Family Traveller)

Booked a ( cancelable ) room in Hostal El Catalán through booking.com in advance. In a couple of weeks got a notification that the hotel is unable to withdraw money from my card (why have they even tried?). Gave them 3 other cards of different banks, one by one - same result, they said they can not get money from all of them. All cards are OK, my bank confirmed no attempts to withdraw money were made. Other Spanish hotels were able to withdraw money from same card. Tried calling the hotel - no o...

I would challenge anyone to find a better place at this price

by XchocolateX on 27 Jul 2010 (Solo Traveller)

The location is close to the Gran Via Metro station. There is an elevator, but you must walk down a few steps. My room had a double bed, air conditioning, a good size refrig- orator, private bath and free wi-fi. There is a micro for guests to use. I stayed there for 4 nights and paid 35 Euros per.It is family owned and the 2 sisters speak English.

Nice family staff, average rooms, great location!

by ValKal on 04 Dec 2009 (Friends Traveller)

The hostel accepts no online bookings and your confirmation is simply verbal. I called 3 times and was repeatedly told my reservation is confirmed verbally, as the woman told me she has no e-mail (I hardly doubt that). I must say, although nervous at first, everything went just perfect. The hostel is 2 floors of a building in the heart of Cheuca, Madrid’s gay community. Across the street is Mama Innes – ate there twice, quite good and very busy night and day. The rooms are very clean, neat and ...

Clean, central and value for money

by ridkfromholland on 03 Oct 2009 (Couple Traveller)

I stayed here last week and six years ago and I must say it still looks the same. They take well care of it. The rooms are basic but very clean and has a very comfortable and clean bathroom. Try to get a room at the back, because at night the c/ Hortaleza can be a bit loud because of nightlife. The location is A+ and for a price of €45/night for a double, you can't go wrong.

Would always go back to Hostal Catalan!!

by alexinargentina on 25 Aug 2007 (Solo Traveller)

I have stayed in this hostal a number of times, as have my family and friends and would recommend it to EVERYONE! It´s 2 blocks from Gran Vía, very close to the metro station Gran Vía (blue and green line), convenient for all the museums and sights. All the rooms have a fridge, airconditioning, TV (6 or 7 channels, not cable) and a private bathroom with toilet and shower. Singles were 30€ a night and doubles were 45€ a night (prices correct as of July 2007) They also had triple rooms, not sur...
