Good base for visiting Reykjavik

by BrianRM70JA on 26 Jan 2017 (Couple Traveller)

Hotel is right opposite the Cathedral and is close to city centre pubs, restaurants etc. Room is okay, needs updating and the curtains didn't block out the street light. TV had 2 English language channels but BBC news didn't have any volume. Breakfast was good and there was plenty to eat and drink. Staff were friendly and helpful and overall we enjoyed our stay at the Leifur. I can recommend staying here as we had a good time.

Great location

This hotel is ideally located at the top of a main touristy road and opposite the Cathedral that is easy to spot so you can find your way back. The room we had was ok not flashy but we didn't spend a lot of time in it there's lots to see in Reykjavik and beyond.Tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc are free 24 hours a day in the cafe area which is really good and the breakfast is good with make your own waffles included. An easy stroll down the road takes you to all the main bars and night spots and s...

So disappointing, felt more like a hostel than a hotel

by ukiain75 on 23 Jan 2017 (Couple Traveller)

Booked this hotel for my wife's 40th birthday It sounded like just our kind of place,a small family run establishment with bags of character Reality was sadly different Out room was in the attic at the back of the property up a narrow flight of stairs, barely wide enough to lug a suitcase up and the room was barely navigable without smashing your head on the low ceiling. Only half the space was actually useable. In many other places the low sloping roof would have been considered dangerous and t...

Great little hotel

by Kay W on 23 Jan 2017 (Friends Traveller)

Really friendly and welcoming hotel in a perfect location. The Hallgrimskirkja church opposite means that you can easily find your way back to the hotel, you are close to plenty of restaurants and shops, and it's only about a twenty minute walk to the harbour. We had single rooms in the annexe which were small, but very clean, warm and quiet. There was enough choice for a help yourself breakfast, and you could get complimentary coffee, tea or chocolate all of the time. We were picked up and drop...

GREAT for Solo Travel: Excellent Location, Breakfast, No-Frills

by Sheila W on 22 Jan 2017 (Solo Traveller)

I found a deal for Hotel Leifur Eiriksson on Expedia and, after loving the name of it (and the price, of course), booked a single person room. This is a very no-frills place: you get a bed, a desk, a closet and a private bathroom. There was endless hot water (it smells a bit like sulfur – don't be alarmed! Iceland's hot water is geothermal and it smells like this everywhere). I was placed in the main building, but there is also a second building right across the street. The hotel has a lovely, l...
