We were only informed on check-in that the hotel was closing the following day. Very few people about and therefore very little atmosphere. We ate out for dinner at a nice restaurant (review later) but at breakfast we were really disappointed. The Parador are known for their excellent breakfast but as it was now the day of closing the choice was little to none. The only hot dish available was fried eggs. There was none of the usual tomatoes, sausages, bacon rashers. When we enquired as to why, t...

Feeling like the duke of Ayamonte y Portugal

by LexGrizzly on 08 Jan 2017 (Solo Traveller)

Sitting on a throne and overview the Portuguese border and the town of Ayamonte is a great feeling. As usual in a Parador, a large rotation of employees, but without feeling like a special guest, not as a room number. Maybe the menu card could be a little bit larger, but it was acceptable. At 3 km from the Portuguese border, it's an ideal starting point to explore both rivers of the Guadiana river. Via the autovia, even Sevilla is at a stone throw.

Good option if you want to visit Huelva and the eastern part of El Algarve (Portugal)

by MARISADO on 03 Jan 2017 (Couple Traveller)

The Parador of Ayamonte is very well placed over a hill facing the Guadiana River, along its last part, being the border between Spain and Portugal. The landscape is great, and you are less than an hour far from Faro, Tavira or Loule in El Algarve, or from the city of Huelva and most of the incredible beaches of the Huelva region such as La Antilla, Isla Cristina, Mazagon, etc. It is also no far from El Rocío and Almonte. Even though the hotel is not very modern (some furniture in the rooms i...

Great location, standard Parador

by mgsnorwich on 03 Nov 2016 (Couple Traveller)

Located just a couple of minutes south of the Spanish / Portuguese main road, right on the border, overlooking the Guardiana River, this Parador is ideally situated for travellers berween the countries. And, given that the Donana National Park and very good beaches are only a few kilometres away, it is also good for longer stays. The standard of the public areas and bedrooms is exactly what you expect in a Parador; all spotlessly clean, crisp sheets, huge bath towels, limitless hot water and pl...

Marvellous 360 degree views..but what a let down

by SusanFaro on 20 Oct 2016 (Friends Traveller)

This Parador has the most spectacular views - all the way round, both inwards to Spain and overlooking Portugal. However, they really need some expert help with staff training. Surely being in a Tourist business, you would expect that other languages need to be spoken apart from Spanish? No one greets you, they carry on talking to each other even when they should be giving you their attention. We stopped for lunch and chose something from the English Menu and the serving staff had to count down ...
