Went to Chicago to see Hamilton and needed a room so our daughter booked us this hotel next to her condo. We did not research it at all which was a mistake on our part. We climbed 50 stairs to our room which was a lovely spacious room but it did not have a TV, phone or clock, all things I consider usual amenities. At bed time we discovered that the AC was not working nor was there a cup or glass in the room to take medications with. We called the phone number we had been given and got a retu...
A perfect place to get away.

We have stayed several times at the Ruby Room in Chicago. It is not a 5 star hotel with all the amenities, but rather a small hotel in a diverse neighborhood filled with great restaurants and friendly people! The bakery across the street is outstanding! The people at the reception desk are welcoming and helpful. The beds are super comfortable and the large showers with wonderful products are fabulous. No tv, but CD players and wifi. Close to the blue line so downtown is easily accessible. It i...
Nice hotel in a trendy area
by DynamicFly on 28 Sep 2016 (Couple Traveller)
The room and bathroom were nice and comfortable. I found the bed very comfortable as well. The room (4C) was advertised as a "city view" which pretty much was the view of the roof next door and some buildings in the distance. It was very quiet while we were there, and the fan on the HVAC system can be turned on as well to add white noise, which is always a plus for me. I got a rash in the evening of the second night, which I believe was either from the detergent used in the sheets or the showe...
The Good and The Bad

I'm of a bit of a split opinion about this place. On the plus side, the location is really great for exploring Wicker Park and the rooms are quite charming. The spa amenities in the bathroom are quite nice. On the negative side, I don't think this place really wants to be a boutique hotel and deal with the attendant issues of running a hotel, no matter how small. My first hour there, I noticed that the keypad lock to the fourth floor landing was not working. I immediately let the front desk gu...
good option in Wicker Park
by jg325 on 24 Aug 2016 (Business Traveller)
I stayed at Ruby Room for one night because I wanted to stay in a hotel in Wicker Park and there really aren't that many options. Overall, it's a pretty nice hotel, but a very quiet atmosphere and late arrivals can really wake you up if you're sleeping. I normally stay with the larger hotel chains, but they just don't exist in Wicker Park, so I decided to check out an independent hotel like this one, and there were pros and cons. The check-in process is a bit convoluted. You have to go to a cr...
