Chenab Railway Bridge

The Chenab Railway Bridge was under construction for a long time but last month, the work was finally completed. It is expected to open to rail traffic by the end of this year. At a height of 1178 feet above the river bed, the Chenab Bridge is the world’s highest rail bridge.

Earlier this week, the Ministry of Railways shared pictures of the bridge towering over a sea of clouds, which have since been trending non-stop on social media.

Did you know? The Indian Railways is the proud owner of four UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

As promised, here are five picturesque railway stations:

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai

Probably one of the most popular and well-known railway stations in the country, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) is an architectural marvel which never ceases to amaze onlookers. Open since 1887, it is one of the four UNESCO World Heritage Sites under Indian Railways. On occasions like the Indian Independence Day, the station is lit up in tricolour. If that’s not picturesque, what is?

Dudhsagar, Goa

Situated close to the spectacular Dudhsagar Waterfalls, this railway station is a visual treat for everyone. Surrounded by hills and greenery, the station is a tourist destination in itself. If you feel like you’ve seen the place already, it may be because the station was featured in the Hindi movie Chennai Express. So, when you book tickets to Goa next, here’s a site that you must check off your list.

Ghum, West Bengal

India’s highest railway station, Ghum will mesmerise you with its scenic landscape and greenery all around. The station is a part of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which is another UNESCO World Heritage Site and is fondly known as the Toy Train. 😀 If you’re planning a trip to Darjeeling, don’t forget to visit this beautiful station!

Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh

In operation since 1888, Vijayawada is one of the busiest railway stations in the country. With its aesthetic white outdoors, you may just think it’s a museum! The junction looks especially breathtaking at night. Once you see it, you’ll definitely want to take a few more moments and soak in its beauty.

Charbagh, Uttar Pradesh

If you get fooled by looking at Lucknow’s Charbagh Railway Station, thinking it’s a monument for sightseeing, we won’t blame you. With green gardens sprawling outside, it appears nothing short of a royal palace. Designed by JH Hornimen, the structure was constructed with towers, minars and domes.
