We decided on the The York House as it was highly recommended by some friends. I now believe they must have stayed there some two hundred years ago. As you enter the place you jump in a world of sadness and tiredness. No smiling face. No one is greeting you. No help. The room we stayed in was so empty that certainly didn't justify the price. The bathroom is more of a wardrobe with a toilet and sink. Talking about breakfast...well...good but definitely not worth the extra €15 per person! Will n...

Beguiling Lisboa - beautiful boutique hotel to match

by Paul C on 04 Nov 2016 (Couple Traveller)

Lisbon is the THE city right now. It's hard to pin down exactly what it is that wraps you in its charms. Certainly the physical setting of labyrinthine streets falling down hills to the harbour river. The broad light that last til late in the day, reflecting off the faded glories of Lisbon's seafaring, royal, colonial architecture. The discovery of new delicious wines that are amongst the oldest in the world. The food - the food! Connected to a long history but finding ways to explore and surp...

A friendly boutique hotel

by Robert and Anna... J on 26 Oct 2016 (Couple Traveller)

This is a lovely friendly hotel off the beaten track, but still an easy walk to transport links. There is a train stop at the bottom of the hill which will take you to the centre of Lisbon one way, and Cascais and Estorill the other way. The hotel has an unassuming entrance off the street, with steep cobbled steps up to the hotel - There is help carrying suitcases which was a relief, and the offer of an umbrella which was essential as it was raining when we arrived. You arrive at a lovely c...

Quiet retreat in busy Lisbon

by Peter R on 17 Sep 2016 (Couple Traveller)

This hotel is a beautiful, comfortable oasis in busy downtown Lisbon. Unassuming from the street, you climb the stairs to enter a courtyard oasis surrounded by beautifully appointed (not modern) rooms. The staff is friendly and exceedingly helpful (especially with your bags up and down the stairs). And their restaurant is fantastic. We ate there the first night because we were travel weary and didn't want to go out. Our meal was so good and service so friendly we decided to have a second di...

Charming and friendly boutique hotel

by Kjcolvard on 17 Aug 2016 (Solo Traveller)

The Your House has comfortable rooms, good food, and a beautiful terrace hidden away from street noise. Lush trees and vines and flowers provide beauty and shade. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. The neighborhood is worth exploring, even though it's a bit out of the way. About equidistant from Belem and from the Alfama. Strong and free wifi. In years past I've been to small conferences at the York House; they have good meeting space for ten to fifteen people.
