Western Railways announced that October 2 will not only be celebrated as Rashtriya Swachhta Diwas but also as ‘Vegetarian Day’ as a homage to Mahatma Gandhi, India’s most-famous ambassador for vegetarianism.
Last year, Indian Railways had introduced a similar order on Gandhi Jayanti but had to call it off after facing criticism from the public.
