1. Lonavala & Khandala stations to run on solar energy

To promote renewable energy, water-coolers, solar panels and solar trees have been installed by the Central Railway at Lonavala and Khandala railway stations. 

Solar panels have been installed on 2 platforms of Lonavala railway station that will generate 76-kilowatt power. Similarly, a level crossing gate has been equipped with solar panels at Khandala railway station. 

Shivaji Sutar, chief public relation officer, Central Railway said, “Lonavala and Khandala are the most popular tourist spots. Lonavala station and its adjoining railway premises will completely run on clean and green energy.”

2. South Eastern Railway produces 1.18 lakh face masks, 10,000 litres of sanitizers


To contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic, South Eastern Railway (SER) has produced a total number of 1,18,045 reusable face masks and 10,738 litres of hand sanitizers so far.

SER has distributed face masks and sanitizer amongst the frontline staff like loco pilots, guards and concerned staff who are engaged in running of the parcel, freight and special trains.

Masks and sanitizers have also been distributed to health units and hospitals.

3. Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh railway stations get a makeover in lockdown

During the lockdown period, Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh railway stations got a makeover to make it cleaner, greener, more convenient and accessible for passengers.

Also, the combination of coaches and racks have been fixed for trains starting from August. This step will increase the number of berths from 80 to 400.
