Lockdown Extended in Maharashtra, Jharkhand; More States Change Guidelines

Indian states continue to take stringent measures to break the chain of transmission of COVID-19 in the country. 

A few states, including Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Gujarat, have extended their existing night curfews and lockdowns, while a few others, including Assam and Telangana have imposed new restrictions.

Please note: Despite the changing guidelines, air and rail travel remains unaffected and passengers can continue to travel to/from airports and railway stations with a valid boarding pass or train ticket. However, it is advisable that you check the latest state-wise guidelines before travelling.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra has extended the lockdown-like curbs currently in place in the state till 7 am on June 1. 


The new order highlights that all travellers entering the state by any mode of transport will be required to carry a RT-PCR negative report (issued within 48 hours of entry into Maharashtra). Along with this,
the additional guidelines placed earlier on travellers coming from places of ‘Sensitive Origins’ will now be applicable on all travellers. Check the complete order below: 

Jharkhand

The lockdown in the state, imposed under the ‘Swasthya Suraksha Saptah’ (Health Safety Week), has been extended for two more weeks, that is, till 6 am on May 27. Along with this, starting from 6 am on May 16, all travellers visiting the state (except those leaving within 72 hours of arrival) will have to undergo institutional / home quarantine for 7 days:

Gujarat

As per media reports, Gujarat has extended the night curfew placed in 36 cities of the state till May 18. The night curfew begins at 8 pm and ends at 6 am.


Telangana

The Telangana government has placed a ten-day lockdown in the state, which has come into effect from May 12. In an official update posted on Twitter, it has been stated that the lockdown will have daily relaxations between 6 am and 10 am:

Goa

Goa has made a negative RT-PCR report (issued within 72 hours of entry into Goa) or certification of full vaccination (2 doses) mandatory for all travellers coming to the state. There are, however, a few categories of travellers who are exempted from this requirement:

> Residents of Goa (on production of proof of residency)

> Persons entering Goa for work purposes (on production of work ID / proof / letter from the employer)

> Persons entering Goa for medical emergency (on production of proof or by coming in an ambulance)

Assam

Starting today, a new set of stringent COVID safety guidelines have come into effect in the state. Along with other rules, the new order directs that all shops and commercial establishments in the state will be closed by 1 pm, and that public transport will be allowed to operate with upto 30 percent seating capacity:

Nagaland

Nagaland will be imposing a complete lockdown in the state, starting from 6 pm tomorrow, May 14, till May 21. Essential services, including agricultural activities will be exempted from the lockdown restrictions:
