More Trains On Weekends And Holidays

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has a great news for all its commuters.

Delhi Metro has decided to add more trains for weekends and holidays to deal with the extra rush of passengers during this period. According to a DMRC spokesperson, “Delhi Metro generally witnesses increased ridership in August every year. Therefore, DMRC has decided to run additional trips during Raksha Bandhan and the weekends”.

You all will be glad to know that the trains will make 106 extra trips on Raksha Bandhan (Between August 17 to August 18). Moreover, there would be the ticket vending machines on entry gates to further the convenience of passengers.  

As told by the spokesperson,”On weekend, 34 extra trips on Saturdays and 95 extra trips on Sundays have been planned”. He further added, “The 5% increase in ridership, against the average of the entire year, translates to about 1 to 1.5 lakh extra passengers per day. The average daily ridership till July was 26.61 lakh”.

The following initiatives have already been taken:

  • Addition of 180 new AFC gates and 118 coaches in the past one year
  • Extra ticket counters at nine stations on the Dwarka sector 21 to Noida route and HUDA City Centre to Samaypur Badli route
  • 100 additional ticket vending machines
  • Extra entry and exit gates, and
  • Extra escalators for all passengers to be able to move around conveniently

According to the official, “Also, the remodelling work at Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar stations is under progress. At Chandni Chowk, additional ticket counters are being set up to ease congestion and dedicated entry and exit gates have been planned for better passenger movement”. Additional AFC gates have been installed at Chawri Bazar to facilitate a smooth movement for all passengers, the official added.
