Pakyong Airport: Sikkim’s first and India’s hundredth

Nine years after the foundation stone was laid, Pakyong Airport, Sikkim’s first, is set to be inaugurated today. Up until now, Sikkim was the only state in the country without an airport.

The airport will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the first commercial flight from Pakyong would begin from October 4.

Spread over an area of 990 acres and located at a height of 4,500 feet above sea level, Pakyong airport is placed at a distance of only 60 kms from the Indo-China border.
