Sikkim Bans Tourists till October to Remain Coronavirus Free

Sikkim has decided to shut its borders to tourists till October 2020. The state has no positive cases of coronavirus so far.

Keeping in line with this, the state government has also closed the Nathu La Pass, thus cancelling the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra for this year and border trade between India and China.

The border trade through the Nathu La Pass was to begin in May while the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via this route was scheduled to begin in June. Both are an important source of revenue to the state.

The state government has stated that it is a precautionary measure to prevent the virus from entering the small north-eastern state with a population of nearly seven lakh.
