A Sky Full of Colours: The International Kite Festival is Back!

Is that a bird? Is that a plane? No, it’s a beautiful kite! That’s right, you can spot kites of all sizes and colours at one of the most prominent festivals of Gujarat, the International Kite Festival!

This festival marks the beginning of the harvest season and the transition from winter to summer. The main event, which is celebrated in Ahmedabad, sees participation from nationals of over 45 countries.

The Festivities:

Throughout the day, designer kites of all shapes and sizes are flown. The string or Manjha is specially prepared to be as sharp as possible to easily take down rival kites during the competition.

What’s more, the excitement fails to die down even at night. Lanterns are attached to the string and the kites continue to be flown, making for an astounding spectacle!

Details of the Festival:

Dates: This year, the festival will be held from January 7 to January 14, 2020.

Venue: Although the festival takes place all over Gujarat, the best place to enjoy it is undoubtedly the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad. Although entry is free for all visitors, the kite flying area can only be accessed by the participants.
