Akshay Tritiya 2020: The Festival of Good luck, Success and Happiness!

Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most sacred and auspicious festivals celebrated by the Hindus across the country. It is considered to be the most auspicious day to start a new venture. Therefore, this day symbolizes good luck, success, and fortune.

Religious Significance: 

  • It is believed as the starting day of Treta Yuga. 
  • On this day, Veda Vyasa started writing the epic Mahabharata. 
  • On Akshay Tritiya, Lord Krishna gave the Akshaya Patra to Draupadi when the Pandavas started for the Vanavasa.


Important Rituals: 

  • Devotees of Vishnu worship the deity on this day by keeping the fast. Later, charity is done by distributing rice, salt, ghee, vegetables, fruits, and clothes to the poor. Tulsi water is sprinkled all around as a symbol of Lord Vishnu.
  • In Eastern India, this day marks as the first ploughing day for the upcoming harvest season.
  • On this day, many people buy gold and gold jewellery. The purchase of gold symbolizes good fortune and wealth. 

Spiritual Significance: 

  • Akshay means ‘Never diminishing’. This Festival reminds us of the eternal nature of the soul. Therefore, meditation is advised on this day. 
  • It is believed that on this day, River Ganges transcended on earth. Hence, devotees practice purity of mind, speech, and action.  
  • Charity helps us purify the inner self and teaches us the quality of giving.
