Coronavirus in India: Recovery Count Crosses 1000; Government Issues Guidelines For Senior Citizens

Amid the coronavirus outbreak, a figure that has gone unnoticed is that of the patients who have recovered. In India alone, over 1000 patients are already cured of the COVID-19 infection.

To keep the recovery rate high and flatten the curve of the disease, PM Modi has announced an extension of the lockdown until May 3.


As the elderly are at high risk, the central government has also issued set guidelines for their protection.

Key points include:

  • Elderly with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, heart, liver or kidney disease need to be extra cautious.
  • Refrain from inviting anyone over and hugging or shaking hands to prevent infection.
  • Stay in constant touch with children and other family members who are living away.
  • Consume adequate water to avoid dehydration as temperatures are now rising.
  • If living alone, senior citizens may seek help from neighbours to acquire essentials.
