How to Board a Flight?

If you want to know how to board a flight in India or how to board an international flight, it’s quite easy & passengers need have to follow several steps. From checking in to security check to the final boarding, here’s how to board a flight:

Check-in:

You can either check-in online or once you reach the airport. Almost all airlines offer online check-in through their websites or through their apps. If you are doing it online, you can check-in 24 hours before your flight’s departure time. After checking in, you will receive your boarding pass on your mobile device. You can either save it there or print it.

If you are going to check-in at the airport, you can visit your airlines’ check-in counter, show your proof of identification (ID or passport), and your travel documents, if required and get your boarding pass issued.

Security Check:

Once you have received your boarding pass, the next step is to proceed to the security check. This is the second step of the procedure at the airport for domestic flight or international flight. Keep your boarding pass and ID handy for inspection. Make sure that you remove items like belts, jackets, and laptops for the screening. All these items will be scanned separately through an X-ray machine. Once this process is over, collect your belongings and proceed to the departure gate.

Departure Gate:

The boarding pass that you have received has all the information about your flight including the departure gate along with the departure time and boarding time. Search for your departure gate and ensure to reach there with your boarding pass. Boarding usually begins 30-45 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Board the Plane:

Keep track of the announcements and monitor the information screens for boarding instructions. Boarding usually happens in a sequence of your seat number. So ensure you do not miss out on any announcement and board the plane timely. Once they call out your sequence, keep your boarding pass ready for the verification at the gate. Once this is done, the airline staff will guide you to your seat number or ensure any assistance if required.

Before taking your seat, you can store your carry-on luggage in the overhead bins or under the seat in front of you. Fasten your seatbelt and you are ready to depart from the airport.

If you want to know how to board a flight for the first time, you need to follow the above steps to keep yourself organized. Here are a few tips you can follow as a first time passenger:

– Never forget the essential documents, especially your tickets!

The key documents include the flight ticket/e-ticket and valid ID proof. Ensure you have both handy while entering the airport. Valid ID proof can be Aadhar Card, Driving License, or your Passport.

– Check the baggage information thoroughly

Check the airline information and read about the things that are allowed as a part of your baggage. For example, liquids over 100 ml are not allowed in check-in baggage and most airlines have weight limits.

– Avoid getting late

If you’re taking a domestic flight, it is advisable to reach the airport 2 hours in advance to avoid delays. For international flights, try to reach the airport 3 hours before departure as immigration and security checks can be time-consuming.

– Listen to Announcements

When at the airport, stay alert about announcements. Often, airport authorities share valuable instructions such as change of gate, flight delays, boarding calls as announcements. Pay attention to remain updated about details related to your flight.

– During the flight, follow all the instructions

Remember to fasten your seat belt, and be considerate of fellow travellers. In case of any questions, reach out to the flight attendants. Avoid violating airline rules (smoking, misbehaving with staff, etc.) to have a comfortable and peaceful flight.
