How to Change Your Boarding Station with a PNR Number?

On July 29, 2024

Train travel is convenient and cost-effective, but it does come with its challenges. One such challenge is the need to change the boarding station. This can occur for various reasons, including convenience, proximity to the current location, saving time, avoiding traffic delays, personal emergencies, preferring quieter train stations, or better amenities.

Changing the boarding station can make travel more comfortable and seamless. However, adapting to this change can be challenging if you are unfamiliar with the process. We will provide clear solutions on how to change your boarding station using a PNR number, enabling you to manage unforeseen circumstances with confidence and ease.

Is Changing the Boarding Station Possible?

Yes, it is possible to change the boarding station through your PNR number. IRCTC allows passengers to modify their boarding station for tickets booked online, preventing the need for cancellations and rebookings, thus saving time and money.

How to Change the Boarding Station with the PNR Number?

You can change the boarding station for an e-ticket either during ticket booking or after ticket booking.

During Ticket Booking

  1. Log in to your IRCTC account using your username and password.
  2. Enter your preferred “From-To” stations, journey date, and travel class. Click “Search” to display a list of trains.
  3. Select your train from the list and click “Book Now.”
  4. On the passenger input page, click the down arrow on the “Boarding Station” option.
  5. A list of all railway stations along the train route will appear. Choose your new boarding station.
  6. The updated boarding station will now be displayed on the passenger details page.

After Ticket Booking

  1. Log in to your IRCTC account using your username and password.
  2. Navigate to MY ACCOUNT >> My Transactions >> Booked Ticket History.
  3. Select the ticket for which you want to change the boarding station.
  4. Click the “Change boarding point” button.
  5. A pop-up will display the stations along the train route. Choose your preferred boarding station.
  6. Confirm the change by clicking “OK.”
  7. A success message will appear if the boarding station is changed successfully. You will also receive a notification on your mobile number.

Important Points to Remember

  • Before proceeding to change your boarding station, it is advisable to check your PNR Status. It will provide you with the current status of your ticket, including confirmation, waitlist, or reservation against cancellation (RAC).
  • The passenger who booked the e-ticket can change the boarding station online 24 hours before the scheduled departure.
  • Once the boarding station is changed, the passenger cannot board the train from the original boarding point. If found traveling without proper authority, a fare difference and penalty will apply.
  • The boarding station can only be changed once.
  • Changes must be made 24 hours before the train’s scheduled departure.
  • Boarding point change is not allowed if the ticket is seized, for PNRs with the VIKALP option, for I-tickets, or for current booking tickets.

Understanding how to modify your boarding station using a PNR number is crucial for smooth train travel. Passengers often change their boarding stations to save time and improve their travel experience. Technological advancements like boarding station changes offer flexibility without needing to cancel tickets. However, passengers must be aware of the rules and restrictions to avoid penalties or travel disruptions.
