How to reach Lakshadweep from Delhi by flight?

Lakshadweep is India’s smallest Union Territory, known for its enchanting natural beauty and excellent marine life. It comprises 36 islands that are adorned with white sandy beaches and lush landscapes.

To reach Lakshadweep from Delhi by flight, you can follow these steps:

1. Take a flight from Delhi to Kochi: You can book a direct flight from Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) to Cochin International Airport (COK). Various airlines like IndiGo, Air India Express, Vistara and Air India operate on this route. It takes around 3 hours 20 minutes and costs around Rs.7200.

2. Take a flight from Kochi to Agatti Island: You can then take a flight from Kochi to Agatti Island which takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes and costs around Rs.5500, one way. Alliance Air and Indigo operate on this route.

3. Agatti Island to your final destination: Lakshadweep has various popular islands like Minicoy Island, Kadmat Islands, Bangaram Island, Kalpeni Islands, and Thinnakara Island. You can opt for boat transfers to reach the island of your choice. It takes approximately 14 to 18 hours, depending on the final place you choose to visit.


How to Get Access to Lakshadweep:

Lakshadweep is a restricted area and not all tourists are allowed. To visit this island, you need to follow this process:

1. Apply for a visitor permit from the Lakshadweep administration situated in Willingdon Island, Kochi.
2. Download the clearance certificate which is available after receiving the permit.

3. Get the clearance certificate approved by the local police station. For this process, you would require your ID with 3 passport size photographs.

4. Download the entry permit or get it in person from the Lakshadweep administration office.

5. Once you reach Lakshadweep, submit this entry permit to the station office.

  • Always plan in advance as the availability of flights to Agatti are limited. 
  • Always check the weather conditions before planning a trip to the island as they affect the flight and boat operations. The best time to visit this place is between October and March with pleasant and cool weather.
