For trains departing between 5 AM and 2 PM, the first chart preparation timing will be 9 PM on the previous night. For trains departing after 2 PM, the chart preparation time for train will be approximately 8 hours before departure time.
The railway reservation chart preparation time for the second chart will still be the same. It will be prepared between 30 to 5 minutes before the departure. Any berths remaining vacant after chart preparation become available for current booking.
Previously, different railway zones used to follow different chart timings, which often confused passengers. In 2015, Indian Railways set a standard train ticket chart preparation time. Recently, they tested making the chart 24 hours in advance in Bikaner but found 8 hours was more practical, so they decided to make this the new IRCTC chart preparation rule.
Also, if you cancel a confirmed ticket 48 to 12 hours before departure, you will get 25% refund, and that seat will be available for others to book.
These changes aim to reduce last-minute confusion and make it easier for passengers to get confirmed seats and plan their travel with peace of mind.
Apart from this, the Railways has also made it mandatory to link Aadhaar to IRCTC for Tatkal ticket booking.
