Amid a rapid surge in COVID-19 cases across the country, several states in India have issued new guidelines and rules.

Here are the major updates:

>Chhattisgarh

In view of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Chhattisgarh, the government has announced a lockdown in Raipur district with effect from April 9 to 19, 2021.

According to the order, public transport services, including taxis and auto-rickshaws, will only be allowed to run for railway stations, airport, bus stands, and hospitals.

The border of the district will be completely sealed and an e-pass is required to travel to/from the city.

>Madhya Pradesh

To stop the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases, the government has decided to impose night curfew in the urban areas of the state from April 8, i.e., today, till further orders. It will be effective from 10 pm to 6 am every night. Lockdown will also be held in the urban areas of all districts of the state from 6 pm on Friday till 6 am on Monday.

>Punjab

The Punjab government has imposed an 8-hour long night curfew from 09:00 pm to 05:00 am till April 30 across the state in view of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.

A gathering of not more than 50 people can attend events like funerals, or weddings organised at indoor venues. In case of outdoor venues, the gatherings have been capped at 100 people.

>Jharkhand

To battle rising COVID-19 cases in Jharkhand, the government has imposed Section 144 in the state till April 30. A set of new SOPs has also been issued which includes the following points:

>Schools and colleges to remain closed
>More than 5 people will not be allowed at a public place
>All shops and institutions will have to be closed after 8pm

>Gujarat

The Gujarat government has imposed night curfew in 20 cities of the state between 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. since yesterday following a spike in COVID-19 cases.

The government offices will remain closed on Saturdays till April 30. Only up to 100 people are allowed at weddings, or any gatherings until further orders.

>Chandigarh

As Punjab continues to witness an alarming spike in Coronavirus cases, the Chandigarh administration has implemented the night curfew from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am until further orders. No gatherings, parties, or non-essential activities will be allowed during this period.

Uttar Pradesh government decides to impose night curfew in Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur, and Prayagraj from today due to increase in the numbers of COVID-19 cases.
