Here are the latest steps the Railways is taking to reduce the risk of COVID transmission to passengers:

1. Coaches deployed for coronavirus isolation in high-temperature areas will now have roof insulation. Since the coaches are non-AC, roof insulation will help bring the temperature down inside the coaches, ensuring that the interiors remain cool and comfortable for the patients.

2. After launching Automated ticket checking and managing access (ATMA) system just a few days back, the Central Railways is now launching Automated Boom Barrier Gate (ABBG). This new feature will allow entry to passengers only after automatic, no-touch scanning by ATMA is complete. It will help reduce the exposure of on-duty RPF to suspected infections:

3. In order to provide seamless services in the upcoming monsoon months, the South Western Railway has completed all infrastructural and safety works on time. These works include closing a few unmanned level-crossings and constructing road underbridges. Without timely completion of these, the schedule of passenger trains would have been seriously affected.

4. To combat the shortage of beds in light of the growing number of coronavirus cases, Railways has sped up the conversion of train coaches into coronavirus isolation wards. For this, a 24-coach isolation train will now be made in Railways’ isolation yard in Jabalpur. A similar isolation train was sent from Jabalpur to Delhi recently.

The Indian Railways is doing a commendable job by taking all the necessary steps to ensure the safety of travellers as well as the general public.
