Railways to Adopt New Methods to Tackle Foggy Weather

In view of the constraints and risks that fog poses in winter, the Indian Railways has decided to employ various new measures. These precautions will ensure less delays and a better experience for train passengers. Scroll down to know more.

Here are the details: 

1) The Indian Railways will be installing fog-safe devices in train engines. These devices will enable the trains to boost their maximum speed from 60 kmph to 75 kmph in foggy weather. 

2) For better visibility, all sighting boards will be painted with yellow and black luminous strips. 

3) In areas with dense fog, the lifting barriers at busy level crossings will also be painted with yellow-black luminous strips.

4) In addition, Railways is training its staff to tackle the challenges of fog. Station masters have been instructed to give a green signal to a train only after verifying the visibility outside. 

5) The Seating-cum-Luggage Rake coaches in trains will be fitted with LED-based flashing lights instead of the typical red lights. This will be crucial as the SLR coach is at the end of the train.
