Railways to create 8 lakh man-days of work for migrants

The Railway Ministry said that it will generate 8 lakh man-days of employment opportunity for migrant workers in infrastructure projects worth ₹1,800 crores in the next 125 days till 31 October.

After a review meeting with Zonal Railways and Railway PSUs on the progress of Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan, Railways said that around 160 infrastructure works have been identified which are to be expedited.

This abhiyaan of 125 days will involve a large concentration of returnee migrant workers in 6 states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Odisha

Railways has also identified a number of railway works that can be executed through Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme which is providing lakhs of jobs to rural poor.
