How can I get Convertible Mark for my trip from India?

There are multiple options, and most travellers use a combination, some cash for small purchases, plus a card for everything else.

• Forex prepaid card: The most popular choice for short trips. Load it with rupees before you fly; the money converts to Convertible Mark at the time of loading, locking in your exchange rate. Zero-markup forex cards skip the 2–4% fee that regular bank cards charge.

• Indian debit or credit card: Works abroad if international transactions are enabled (most banks disable this by default, so switch it on in the app before you fly). Standard cards add a 3–3.5% forex markup per swipe, though a few newer credit cards waive it entirely.

• Cash: Still the most reliable option for street food, tips, taxis and local markets. Buy from an FFMC-licensed money changer or an online forex platform - both are cheaper than banks and far cheaper than airport counters.

• UPI International: Some countries now accept UPI payments from Indian apps. Check before you fly; if Bosnia and Herzegovina is on the list, you can scan QR codes with UPI apps just like in India. Carry a card as backup.
