Plug Type and Travel Adapter Guide for Mongolia

Plug types used in Mongolia

Mongolia uses 2 plug types: Type C and E. Of these, Type E are not used in India, so you'll need a travel adapter for those sockets.

Type C plug and socket

Type C

Type C: Uses two parallel, round pins.

Type E plug and socket

Type E

Type E: Two round pins with a grounding hole.

Do I Need a Voltage Converter in Mongolia?

Mongolia runs on a main voltage of 220 volts at a frequency of 50 Hz. This is effectively the same as India's 230V/50Hz. You can plug any Indian device into a Mongolia socket without a voltage converter, as long as the plug shape fits.

Will my Indian charger work in Mongolia?

Yes, but it depends on which socket your hotel has. Mongolia uses Type C and E sockets at 220V/50Hz. Your Indian phone and laptop chargers are dual-voltage (the label reads 100–240V), so they handle Mongolia voltage without any issue. The only question is plug shape — your Indian plug fits Type C sockets directly, but will not fit Type E sockets without an adapter. You do not need a voltage converter — Mongolia's 220V is the same as India's 230V.
