Plug Type and Travel Adapter Guide for Nigeria

Plug types used in Nigeria

Do I Need a Voltage Converter in Nigeria?

Nigeria runs on a main voltage of 230 volts at a frequency of 50 Hz. This is effectively the same as India's 230V/50Hz. You can plug any Indian device into a Nigeria socket without a voltage converter, as long as the plug shape fits.

Will my Indian charger work in Nigeria?

Yes, but it depends on which socket your hotel has. Nigeria uses Type D and G sockets at 230V/50Hz. Your Indian phone and laptop chargers are dual-voltage (the label reads 100–240V), so they handle Nigeria voltage without any issue. The only question is plug shape — your Indian plug fits Type D sockets directly, but will not fit Type G sockets without an adapter. You do not need a voltage converter — Nigeria's 230V is the same as India's 230V.
