The Hornbill Festival is held annually in Nagaland, in the month of December. It aims to conserve the rich culture and traditions of Nagaland. As a part of the celebration, various cultural performances are organised by the locals.

Interestingly, Tripura is home to over 300 hornbills that are identified as ‘Oriental Pied Hornbill’ (Anthracoceros albirostris) and have been spotted across the state. Hence, to develop tourism in the region, Tripura Government has decided to host their own version of the Hornbill Festival. Although, the name of the festival is still undecided.

Additionally, the forest officials in Tripura are taking steps to spread awareness about the Hornbill bird and the conservation of the species and other natural resources. For the same purpose, a hornbill viewpoint is set up at Baramura hills for the tourists.
