Backspace Anjuna Beach

Stayed here for the night and had a great experience. Despite the late ...night check-in, the process was smooth and hassle-free. The staff was prompt, helpful, and quick to respond to any queries...The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The location is another big plus very close to Anjuna Beach and Vagator, making it convenient to explore some of the popular cafes, restaurants, and nightlife spots in the area.Overall, a comfortable and convenient stay. Would definitely recommend Backspace Anjuna for anyone looking to stay close to the action in North Goa. Great stay indeed! 🌴✨

We stayed in the Double Suite room and had a good overall experience. The location is definitely one of the biggest positives. Anjuna Beach and the market are just a short walk away, so getting around was really easy.The staff at the hostel were friendly, helpful, and always available whenever we needed anything.There were a couple of things that could be improved though. Since we visited during the monsoons, the parking area got quite muddy. The room also felt damp. The bathrooms, toilets and balcony could definitely use some maintenance as they looked worn out and unkept compared to the beautiful rooms and the overall vibe of the property.Overall, it's a good budget-friendly stay with a great location, and we'd recommend it if you're looking for an affordable place in Anjuna.

This hostel really deserves a 5 star rating in all categories because it is very good value for money, the staff are kind and relaxed, and the facilities are excellent. But I'm sorry to say that the hostel's dog seriously detracted from my stay, as well as from the stays of the other guests. The hostel has a very large dog who would let himself into our room and sleep on the floor. It sounds like it theoretically could be nice, but the dog is filthy and smells very bad. He would track mud into the room, and dog hair would end up on everyone's clothes. Nobody liked it, and it actually caused arguments between the roommates of my shared dorm, as everyone became increasingly frustrated with this dog and the inability of the staff to keep the dog under control. We guests eventually made an agreement that those who are in the room should lock the door from the inside to keep the dog out, and then unlock the door when non-canine visitors knocked on the door. So this caused interrupted sleep and hassle for the guests. The last person out of the room would lock the door from the outside. The dog would check our door every 20 minutes, so there was still lots of dog smells in the room and the need to scold the dog and get him out of the room every day. This being a very large dog and not particularly friendly either, so it was a little scary sometimes to annoy him. Multiple guests complained to the staff at different times, sometimes quite heatedly. But short of tying the dog's leash to the sofa in the common area (which they would do at times, when they were fed up with him), there wasn't much they could do. So then we would have the dog entering our room, followed shortly by the staff, who would scold the dog and drag him out, spraying air fresheners and mopping up the mud on the floor. This would happen multiple times a day, sometimes while people were trying to sleep. Until the staff gave up, and then it fell on the guests to control the dog again. Until the next heated complaint. I stayed at the hostel for 2 weeks and this cycle continued indefinitely. And when he wasn't staking out the dorm rooms, the dog would be on the porch, where the tables and chairs for eating are located. The porch has a split level floor, with the tables on the lower level. The dog would position himself on the raised ledge a few feet away from us and loom over us, at eye level, begging for food, breathing heavily and his bad breath and body odor was not appetizing at all. This made eating at the hostel a very unpleasant experience as well, and it became a bad joke amongst the guests. We would attempt to build barricades with chairs to keep the dog away from our table, as part of our preparations for every meal taken at the hostel. So all in all, a great 5 star hostel experience that was very badly tarnished by the dog. I would urge the hostel owner to ask himself, what purpose is this dog serving at my hostel? Is it worth the drain on my staff and the experience of the guests to have him there?

Our stay at Backspace, Anjuna was extremely disappointing and nowhere close to what was advertised.On the very first day, the staff refused to allow us an early check-in, even though rooms were available in their newly opened hostel. We had booked a room that included breakfast, but breakfast was provided only on one day of our stay.The room was unhygienic. We found lizards, cockroaches, and spiders inside. The lighting in the room was poor, the balcony was practically useless, and the bathroom had a constant bad smell. Overall, the room looked nothing like the pictures shown during booking.The worst part of our stay happened around 2:30 a.m. One night, there was a huge disturbance in the hotel. A woman was screaming, damaging hotel property, and hitting a man with her slippers. It was frightening, and we genuinely felt unsafe. From what we understood, the man had brought a sex worker to the property, and they got into a fight over money, which led to the chaos. The hotel staff did not seem to handle the situation effectively, making the experience even more uncomfortable.Considering the poor hygiene, misleading photos, lack of promised amenities, and the unsafe environment, we felt this property was significantly overpriced. We would not recommend staying here and hope the management takes these issues seriously to improve the guest experience.
