Zostel Plus Wayanad

My stay at Zostel Wayanad was very disappointing. The main problem was the state of the rooms. We booked the 4-bed Deluxe Dorm, but it was far from deluxe. The walls showed dampness and mold, the curtain rod was broken, and the room smelled bad. Neither the room nor the bathrooms were cleaned properly. The dorm was also very hot, especially since we visited in May. There was no AC, ventilation was poor, and the only fan was broken. Considering we paid ₹1,153 per person, the dorm's condition did not justify even a small part of that price. The food was another big letdown. It was overpriced and low quality. The same curry base was used for several dishes like rajma, chicken curry, and egg curry. The sausages in the English breakfast were deep fried; the second time we asked not to fry them, they were raw and frozen inside. The food was bad, and both the kitchen and dining area were very unhygienic. What made things worse was the restaurant staff's behavior. After we had placed our order and were seated, a larger group arrived. We were asked to leave our table and wait outside. I explained that my friend was unwell and we just wanted to finish dinner and return to our dorm, which was on a slope and not easy to go back and forth. The staff took advantage of their position, especially since we were two women travelers at 9 pm with no other dining options nearby, as most places were over 10 km away and no autos were available at night. The staff member was very rude and showed no empathy or willingness to assist. Their behavior was highly unprofessional and unpleasant. The only good thing about this place is its location, which is beautiful and close to Chembra Peak. But a nice location cannot make up for poorly maintained rooms, unhygienic facilities, overpriced food, and bad hospitality. Overall, this was my most disappointing experience at a Zostel, and I did not expect this from a plus property. The place needs serious maintenance, better cleanliness, and staff training in customer service.

Overall, a decent Zostel. However, it seemed somewhat poorly maintained, possibly due to the off season. The food was good, and the views were excellent.

Great location. The private waterfall is a wonderful bonus. Definitely worth a visit. Be cautious while driving in the monsoon season.

Zostels consistently offer a friendly atmosphere for travelers in small groups. The property is well kept, although a few amenities are still being developed. The dorms are roomy, and there are many treks and sights close by. I suggest booking on weekdays since weekends tend to get crowded with big "party" groups. There is plenty of space nearby for nature walks too. A special shoutout to Viggy's cafe and Zain bhai for their fantastic food!
