Indian Railways plan to protect new Train 18 windows, know how

India’s most awaited engine-less semi-high speed train, Train 18 or Vande Bharat Express was attacked by stones and damaged twice during its trial run.

So, in order to protect passengers and self-propelled train sets from damage, Indian Railways is taking necessary steps.

Shubhranshu, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer at ICF Chennai said that to make the glass “shatterproof,” special frames will be used in the windows of new Train 18 set (currently being manufactured).

He added, “While the glass can still break in case the train is hit by stones while it is running at a higher speed, the frames will ensure that the glass does not shatter and hit passengers.”


Note:
By the end of March this year, Vande Bharat Express rake will be ready for roll-out.

Apart from “shatter-proof” windows, Vande Bharat Express rake will also have a bigger pantry in each coach. Passengers will also be served two meals as Vande Bharat Express will cover longer distances.
