Indian Railways to Upgrade 50,000 Passenger Coaches

In an effort to improve rail journey for passengers, railways has confirmed that 50,000 coaches of the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) will be upgraded to Utkrisht Rakes in the upcoming years. Utkrisht rakes are known for their more advanced, better designed and passenger-friendly features.

As per some reports, the upgradation process has already begun. Rajesh Aggarwal, Member, Rolling Stocks Railway Board said that the upgradation exercise will not only help passengers experience a more comfortable and safe rail journey but will also help improve the image of Indian Railways.

Utkrisht Rakes have many salient features. Apart from a new colour scheme, some of the other features of this new coach include renovated furnishings, LED lighting for better illumination, stainless steel panelling and anti-skid flooring, stainless steel dust bin, better quality and larger mirrors.

For an odourless experience, all coaches of the Utkrisht Rakes come fitted with bio-toilets. They also include improved fittings like health faucet, taps, stainless steel basins, etc. 

Each rake is being upgraded at a cost of approximately Rs.60 lakhs. This year, 500 coaches will be upgraded to Utkrisht coaches and they will be attached to various Mail/ Express trains.
