The Vande Metro trains will eventually ply between a distance of 100-250 kms connecting 124 cities across the country. The routes identified so far include Lucknow-Kanpur, Agra-Mathura, and Tirupati-Chennai, among others.

Government officials said, “Vande Metro trains are oriented towards high acceleration with frequent stoppages. These trains will have 12 coaches each, large automatic doors with side seats.”

The Vande Metro will be available in different setups, like with four coaches, eight coaches, and so on, always in groups of four. The official explained that for the busiest routes, they can even have up to 16 coaches.

Typically, each coach of the Vande Metro can hold around 280 passengers, with space for 100 seated and 180 standing. They will use a bench-style seating arrangement to fit in as many passengers as possible. They might also consider linear seating to increase capacity even further.
