IRCTC Tejas Express: Railways to Resume India’s 1st Private Train on These Routes

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) is all set to resume the services of Tejas Express trains on two routes. This decision has been taken to facilitate the growing passenger demand due to the festive season. 

IRCTC will be resuming Tejas Express trains on two routes: Lucknow-New Delhi and Ahmedabad-Mumbai. It might be noted that Tejas Express trains on both these routes were suspended on 19th March due to COVID.

Now, both the Lucknow-New Delhi and Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express trains are going to restart operations from 17th October.

Passengers can conveniently book train No. 82501/82502 Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas express and train no. 82901/82902 Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express on ixigo:

Tejas Express Routes

  • 82501/82502 Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas Express: This train covers the distance between New Delhi and Lucknow in about 6 hours. Before services were stopped due to COVID, it ran every day except on Tuesdays and had stoppages at Kanpur Central and Ghaziabad. It is expected that this train will follow the same schedule from October 17.
  • 82901/82902 Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express: This train covers the distance between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in about 6 hours. As per Western Railways, it will run every day except on Thursdays from October 17. It will have stoppages on Andheri, Borivali, Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara and Nadiad stations in both directions. The halt at Andheri station has been provided temporarily.


To make sure that passengers travel safely, the following safety protocols will be followed on Tejas Express trains:

1.Every alternate seat will be kept vacant to ensure social distancing.

2.All travellers will need to install the Arogya Setu app.

3.Face masks will be mandatory for both passengers and staff.

4.Passengers will board the train coach-wise following all social distancing norms.

5.Tea/snacks/meal will be served to passengers as per the travelling time of the train.


6.Packaged drinking water and unlimited tea/coffee service will be available for passengers.

7.All passengers will be provided with a COVID protection kit which will contain a bottle of hand sanitizer, one mask, one face shield and one pair of gloves.

8.All passengers will undergo thermal screening and hand sanitization process before entering the coach.

9.The coaches, including the pantry areas and lavatories, will be thoroughly disinfected at regular intervals.

10.Frequent-touch surfaces like chair handles, door handles, etc. will be cleaned and disinfected regularly. 

The Tejas Express trains provide many flight-like facilities to passengers, such as lounge access at the Railways station, train hostess, reading lights, LED screens, etc.
