This year, the festival will be held over the course of four days from October 28-31, 2019.

How to Reach:

The nearest international airport is Guwahati Airport, about 480 km from Tawang. The nearest railway station is Rangapara Railway Station, about 383 km from the town. 

Travellers can also take a bus from Guwahati to Bomdila and then conveniently leave for Tawang the next morning either by bus, car or shared taxis.

The Celebrations: 

The festival opens with ‘Sebang’, or the procession of monks from Tawang monastery to the festival venue. Other festivities include the dance of Yak, monastic dances, the traditional parade, Aji Lamu dance and handicraft exhibitions. Travellers can also enjoy hot-air balloon rides at the festival.

1. Travellers must witness the legendary ‘Keng Chham’ dance that depicts the defeat of evil.

2. When in Tawang, travellers must visit Sela Pass, Gorichen Peak, Madhuri Lake, Nuranang Falls, P T Tso Lake and Tawang monastery.

3. Inline Permit (ILP) for domestic travellers and Protected Area Permit (PAP) for international travellers is a must.

4. Since the hilly region has limited accommodations, travellers are advised to book their hotels in advance.

5.Do not come back without trying the authentic thukpa along with the local rice beer!
