Previously, pet owners were required to physically visit the parcel booking counters at the station on the day of their journey to book 1st class AC tickets, cabins, or coupes for their pets, provided the entire compartment was reserved.

Alternatively, they could transport their furry companions in a container within the second-class luggage and brake van. This caused a great deal of inconvenience to passengers.

To solve this problem, the Ministry of Railways is exploring the possibility of introducing online ticket booking for pets. Modifications to the IRCTC software are currently underway to facilitate this initiative.

The rules have been announced for animals of all sizes, from elephants to horses, dogs, and birds. Pets such as dogs and cats can accompany their owners on their journeys.

Once you have booked your ticket, be sure to get a photocopy of it. Additionally, ensure that your pet has received all necessary vaccinations, and keep all the required certificates readily available.
