Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to Ayodhya today after 29 years to participate in the foundation laying ceremony for the construction of the Ram Mandir.

About Ayodhya:

It is the birth place of Lord Rama known as Saket which is an ancient city of India and is regarded as one of the 7 sacred cities of the Hindus.

About the ceremony:

a) PM Modi first visited the Hanuman Garhi Temple after arriving in Ayodhya

b) He laid 40 Kg silver brick for the Bhumi Pujan event in Ram Mandir

c) Around 175 attended the Bhumi Pujan ceremony including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP leader Uma Bharti and yoga guru Baba Ramdev among others.

d) Soil from more than 2000 pilgrimage sites and water from more than 100 rivers was brought for the rituals.

About the temple:

a) It is to be built in 10 acres, remaining 57 acres to be temple complex

b) Design in accordance with Hindu beliefs

c) Known for strength and longevity, stones from Bansi Mountains in Rajasthan will be used in the construction of the Ram Mandir

d) 4 smaller temples to surround the main structure

e) Bricks inscribed with ‘Sree Ram’ to form foundation

f) 3 floors, 1 shikhar and 5 dome-shaped mandaps

g) Height increased from 141 to 161 feet
