Safety First! Indian Railways launches ‘Meri Saheli’ for women passengers

To ensure the safety of female travellers during the festive season, Indian Railways has recently started a great initiative named ‘Meri Saheli’ for various stations and trains.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) – consisting of lady constables led by a lady sub inspector interacts with lady passengers on board to counsel female passengers travelling alone about the need to be cautious for their own safety.

The team will approach such female passengers at their station of boarding and will share their mobile numbers with them. The team is also informing the female passengers about the toll-free helpline number (182) and other safety features being provided by Indian Railways.

Bhopal railway division has also deployed a female police team named as ‘Avanti Bai’ and ‘Ahilya Bai’ in trains and stations for strengthening the security of women passengers. The team of cops is working for 24 hours in shifts and includes 1 sub inspector, 2 female constables and 2 male constables.
