Getting There! 


Being one of the most-visited travel destinations in India, Udaipur is easily accessible from all major cities.

By Air: Maharana Pratap Airport is located at a distance of 22 km from the city of Udaipur. Many domestic airlines connect Udaipur to all the major cities of India including Jaipur, Mumbai and Delhi. 

By Train: There are frequent trains which run to and from Udaipur connecting Jaipur, Mumbai and Delhi. For luxury seekers, the train ‘Palace on Wheels’ is an excellent option.

By Road:
If you want to drive to Udaipur, the roads are fairly good. There are a number of frequent private and state buses that connect Udaipur to nearby cities.

 

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Udaipur is between October and March. During this time, the pleasant weather helps you explore all the sights comfortably. Travellers can also witness many local festivals if they travel in winters.

Where to stay

COVID-19 test:
All symptomatic travellers will be tested for COVID-19 on arrival, at the airport.

Quarantine rules:

Domestic Passengers:
– No quarantine for asymptomatic passengers.
– Symptomatic passengers will be taken to a health facility for treatment.

International Passengers:
– For asymptomatic passengers: 7 days of institutional quarantine and 7 days of home quarantine.
– Symptomatic passengers will be taken to a health facility for treatment.
– Those who wish to apply for an exemption from institutional quarantine will have to submit a negative COVID-19 test report (RT-PCR) on the Air Suvidha Portal. The test must be conducted 72 hours before undertaking the journey.
– Mandatory 7-day home quarantine for all passengers.
– International passengers can apply for an exemption from institutional quarantine on the Air Suvidha Portal at least 72 hours before boarding.

Places to visit

1. City Palace

City Palace in Udaipur is one of the most stunning palace complexes of Rajasthan located on the banks of Lake Pichola. It is the epitome of royalty showcasing an amazing concoction of Rajasthani, Mughal, Medieval, European architecture. The construction of this magnum opus was started by Maharana Udai Singh II, and was carried on by his successors.

Visiting hours: 9 am to 5:30 pm

2. Lake Pichola  

The highlight of Udaipur, Lake Pichola is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque lakes of Rajasthan. Located in the heart of the city, Pichola Lake is the oldest and one of the largest lakes of Udaipur. This lake is enveloped by lofty palaces, kothis, bathing ghats, temples and hills on all sides, making it look like a dream.

3. Sajjangarh Fort

Named after Maharana Sajjan Singh, this palatial hilltop residence overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake is also known as the Monsoon Palace. Offering a panoramic view of the lakes, palaces and pristine countryside, it is a symbol of the Mewar Kingdom. If you are a history enthusiast then marvelling at this architectural wonder will make your day.

4. Jagdish Temple

Built by Maharaja Jagat Singh in 1651, Jagdish Temple is an ideal example of Indo-Aryan architecture. Carved with intricate statues of deities and mythological characters, the Jagdish Temple boasts of a unique Vastushastra style. The temple is situated in the city, not far from Tripoli Gate of the Palace and there is no entry fee for visitors.

5. Bagore ki Haveli

A gracious 18th-century mansion, Bagore ki Haveli is set right on the waterfront of Lake Pichola and stands exuding an unparalleled old-world charm. Don’t miss the spectacular dance show named ‘Dharohar’ that takes place here every evening. We advise our readers not to use their personal vehicles to reach this place as it’s located in the by-lanes of the crowded old city.

Visiting hours: 10 am to 5:30 pm

Gangaur Ghat, Lake Fateh Sagar, Jagmandir, Saheliyon–ki–Bari, Moti Magri, Ahar Museum, Hathi Pol Bazar, and the Vintage Car Museum are some of the other places that must be visited.
