Here are the complete details:

A) India to launch hydrogen-powered Vande Metro on heritage routes by December 2023. According to news reports, a prototype of a hydrogen fuel-based train is being developed at the Northern Railway workshop and will be tested on the Sonipat-Jind section in Haryana.

The heritage routes include the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Kalka Shimla Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, Kangra Valley, Bilmora Waghai, Matheran Hill Railway and Marwar–Devgarh Madriya.

Vande Metro will be manufactured in large numbers and will replace trains that were manufactured in the 1950s and 1960s.

B)
Indian Railways’ anti-collision system ‘Kavach’ has been deployed for 1,455 route kilometres. The 3000-kilometers-long rail routes of Delhi–Mumbai and Delhi–Howrah will soon be secured with this new technology.

What is the ‘Kavach’ protection system?

‘Kavach’, which means ‘armour’, is an anti-train collision system. This will enable trains to stop on their own in case the system detects errors like a train blowing past a red signal or any other malfunction.
