This week began with a long list of railway news updates, as train cancellations, extensions and passenger occupancy were sharply influenced by the new lockdown and curfew orders passed in multiple states.

Fresh lockdown & curfew rules for Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, 9 other states/UTs

Punjab asked all incoming travellers from other states to carry a COVID-negative report, while Maharashtra marked West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh as places of ‘sensitive origin’, requiring negative test reports for arrivals from these locations. New lockdown and night curfew timings were released by 10 other states, which you can read here.

Indian Railways update: Several special trains cancelled

Multiple special trains were cancelled in at least 4 railway zones due to the surge in COVID-19 cases. Some of them were terminated till as far back as May 31. See all the routes, dates and train numbers here.


COVID update: Several states extend lockdown & curfews; new guidelines issued!

Seven states, including Bihar, Goa, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat, extended their lockdowns and curfews, or issued new guidelines to prevent viral transmission. You can check the official orders here.

59 special trains extended from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh & other states

Multiple IRCTC special trains were extended for trips in May and June 2021. The extensions are meant to help passengers who urgently need to travel to and from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Assam and Jharkhand. See train schedules here…

Apart from these two announcements, readers should also know that total lockdown orders were passed for Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala and Odisha. In the Himalayan states, Himachal Pradesh changed its curfew rules and now requires an e-pass for all out-of-state arrivals, while Uttarakhand has extended its ‘corona curfew’ period.
