The terminal was inaugurated by PM Shri Narendra Modi on 11th November last year. It is expected to serve 25 million passengers per year. The new terminal will initially cater to domestic passengers before gradually expanding its service to international flyers.

It is equipped with automated biometric gates, self-baggage drop service, full body scanners and other modern facilities for the convenience of the travellers. As a tribute to the Garden City of Bengaluru, the terminal is home to over 6 lakh plants sourced from various ecological habitats in India.

Terminal Boulevard is also now open to improve access to the KIA. It is an additional road that will connect passengers to both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, ensuring a smooth traffic flow to departures and arrivals.
